Motorcycle insurance
Foreign Use/EC compulsory insurance
If you take your motorcycle abroad
The standard cover will usually only meet the minimum legal
requirements while you are abroad. This is usually the equivalent
of UK Third party cover .
These are the geographical limits that apply
to certain sections of a Motorcycle Insurance policy.
Countries that are covered under Foreign Use/EC compulsory
insurance (and extended cover)
Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland,
France (including Monaco), Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary,
Iceland, Ireland, Italy (including San Marino and Vatican
City), Luxembourg, Netherlands/Holland, Norway, Portugal,
Slovak Republic, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland (including Liechtenstein).
Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Malta, Poland, Romania,
Slovenia and Turkey
For details of countries not included in these lists and
additional cover you may require, contact your Insurer or
Broker. Additional cover usually incurs additional premium
Foreign use and compulsory insurance requirements
As well as providing cover within the territorial limits
,most motorcycle policies in line with European Union directives,
also provide the necessary cover to meet the laws on compulsory
insurance of motor vehicles in:
any other country which is a member of the European Union;
and
any country which the Commission of the European Communities
is satisfied has made arrangements to meet the requirements
of Article 7(2) of EC Directive 72/166/EEC relating to civil
liabilities arising from using a motor vehicle (eligible
countries change from time to time).
The level of cover provided is the minimum required to comply
with the laws on the compulsory insurance of motor vehicles
of the country in which the accident happens. Where the
level of cover in any European Union Member State is less
than that provided by the legal minimum requirements of
Great Britain, the level of cover that applies in Great
Britain will apply in that Member State.
Extending your cover
If you pay an extra premium, you can extend your policy
to provide the same level of cover you have in the UK, in
the European Union and some other European countries.
What isn't covered
Any person who does not keep to the terms, exclusions, and
conditions stated in the policy documents
Your vehicle must be UK registered to be covered
